Newsplease note:

Coalition asks Israeli Prime Minister to intervene with Governor Davis, Attorney General Lockyer

The Coalition for Justice in Hawaiian Gardens and Jerusalem has asked Prime Minister Ehud Barak, who is visiting the U.S. this week, to ask Californias governor and attorney general to stop gambling operations in Hawaiian Gardens, which are harming that Los Angeles County city and funding the activities of Israeli extremists opposed to peace with the Palestinians.

In a letter to Barak, leaders of the Jewish-Latino coalition warned that Dr. Irving Moskowitz, who controls the gambling ventures (and Hawaiian Gardens politics) has been funneling millions of dollars in tax-free bingo proceeds to Israeli extremists bent on destroying the peace process. "Today, because of Moskowitzs activities, the future of the Israeli and Palestinian peoples are intertwined with the future of the people of Hawaiian Gardens," says the letter, a copy of which is attached.

Adds Coalition Coordinator Rabbi Haim Dov Beliak: "The Moskowitz Foundation, which operates the multi-million-dollar bingo parlor, staffs the games with unpaid, often immigrant "volunteers," working for tips alone. Their exploited labor is funding the radical Israeli settlers assault on Israeli-Palestinian peace."

The coalition has been campaigning to persuade Attorney General Bill Lockyer not to grant a permanent license to Moskowitzs Hawaiian Gardens poker casino.

A copy of the letter appears in this weeks edition of the Atlanta Jewish Times. Prime Minister Barak will address the General Assemblies of Federated Jewish Communities in Atlanta on Friday.

The Coalition for Justice in Hawaiian Gardens and Jerusalem is distributing a video about Moskowitzs activities, A Tale of Two Cities, which you can request from the address or phone number above or from www.stopmoskowitz.org
